Halló! Ég heiti Diana! Hvað heitir þú? (Hello! I’m Diana! What’s your name?)
The beauty and uniqueness of Iceland is revealed to you from the very first words in native Icelandic. The purity of the air, the clarity of the water and the serenity of the sky engulf you from your first steps into Iceland’s volcanic land. And you seem to see the Northern Lights all around you …
Between 6-10 November 2022, in Borgarnes, Iceland, I experienced the joy of beautiful landscapes, blue-sky waterfalls, volcanoes and volcanic rocks that have been dormant for centuries, hot geysers rising from the heart of the earth, calm, balanced and punctual people.
I met talented trainers, communicative and friendly teammates, people with whom I’ve added a new milestone to my professional and personal development. Through a quality learning and practice session, that included discussions, debates, presentations, role plays, individual and team work, we learned about prejudice, stereotypes, discrimination, racism, migration, interculturality, inclusive education and effective teaching methods in a world of diversity.
All of this was possible while taking part in the Training Programme focusing on the issues of inclusive education, human rights and anti-discrimination, organised by the Romanian Social Development Fund (FRDS), Operator of the Programme “Local Development, Poverty Reduction and Increasing Roma Inclusion” (Local Development), funded by EEA and Norwegian Grants 2014-2021 and implemented in partnership with the Norwegian Association of Local and Regional Authorities (KS) and the Council of Europe (CoE). The programme was delivered by exceptional trainers from InterCultural Iceland. Thank you, Guðrún Pétursdóttir! Thank you, Cherry Hopton!
Along with the 25 participants – specialists who are directly involved in the management or provision of services to vulnerable groups benefiting from FRDS funded projects – the course was also attended by representatives of the FRDS PO, with whom we worked in teams and debated interesting topics. We concluded that the commitment of our experts, the openness to learn new things, as well as the passion for doing a great job for the beneficiaries of our projects, will certainly guide us towards evolution and progress.
…As for the aurora borealis…this time we didn’t see it, but it will certainly shine its enigmatic colours next time, in December 2022, when we’ll enjoy new learning and development information and experiences, also in Borgarnes, Iceland, in the second part of the training programme “Inclusive/Intercultural Education, Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination”.
Bless! (Good-bye!)
