Halló aftur ! (Hello, again!)
The Icelandic Knowledge Saga continued this month from December 4th-8th, 2022 in Borgarnes in the second (and final) part of the training programme “Inclusive/Intercultural Education, Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination“. The reunion with fellow trainees, trainers, and the mystical realms of Iceland was another occasion for joy and delight.
During the 5 days of the course, the series of practical activities—debates, discussions, role plays, focus groups, short film screenings followed by analysis and conclusions, presentations and reflections—confirmed all the theoretical aspects on racism, structural discrimination of the Roma population, the role of bystanders, human rights education.
Together we’ve been looking for solutions to bring about positive change, realising that in order to make a difference, it is important to rationally and emotionally internalise the issues of discrimination and racism and make ourselves the agents of the desired change. The training programme also gave us the opportunity to “see” the power of the example of positive change by visiting the Office for Human Rights and Democracy in Reykjavik.
I am grateful to have had this opportunity to participate in the Training Programme focusing on inclusive education, human rights and anti-discrimination, organised by the Romanian Fund for Social Development (FRDS), Operator of the Programme “Local Development, Poverty Reduction and Roma Inclusion” (Local Development), funded by EEA and Norwegian Grants 2014-2021 and implemented in partnership with the Norwegian Association of Local and Regional Authorities (KS) and the Council of Europe (CoE). Thanks also to trainers Guðrún Pétursdóttir and Cherry Hopton from InterCultural Iceland. Takk fyrir!
…As for the aurora borealis…this time I saw it, dancing in enigmatic colours, but only after singing Romanian…and international carols 😊
Beautiful experience, beautiful lessons learned, beautiful memories!
Bless! (Good bye!)
