In August we marked the completion of the three parenting education courses planned within the “We Invest in Inclusive Education!” project. 60 parents from communities in the Iasi county attended the courses.
The courses aimed to help parents develop their relationship skills with their children, recognise the needs that their children have and understand the importance of education in their development.
Each course covered 10 topics, approaching parenting from the perspective of positive discipline. The topics covered topics such as: effective communication, emotion management, prevention of risk behaviours (addictive behaviours – alcohol and drugs), developmental stages of children, differences between discipline and punishment, influence of entourage, shaping leisure time constructively, sex education in the family, positive role models in terms of attitude towards learning, etc.
The course was organised in an interactive, non-formal manner, parents actively engaging in all discussions and practical activities.
The feedback received from the 3 courses was very positive, the parents expressing their wish to participate in such meetings again. So, by mutual agreement, we created WhatsApp groups with the aim of building a supportive relationship between parents.
If time permits, we plan to hold regular follow-up meetings with parents to monitor and reinforce the way in which the information received in the course is applied to the education of children.
